What is a circular abdominoplasty?

In Turkey, a circular abdominoplasty is more extensive than a standard abdominoplasty. It is usually performed in Istanbul on patients who have lost a lot of weight (perhaps after a gastric sleeve or other type of bariatric surgery) and now have loose or sagging skin all over their body.

In a circumferential tummy tuck, the surgeon makes an incision that extends around the waistline, removing excess skin and fat and tightening the muscles. The outer thighs and buttocks are also worked on, and a new navel can be created.

Candidates for circular abdominoplasty

Patients with a slightly protruding abdomen or a small amount of excess skin in the mid-section are not suitable candidates for a circular tummy tuck and are more likely to benefit from a mini or traditional tummy tuck.

Patients should be able to resume some activities within two to four weeks of the tummy tuck, but should wait for their surgeon’s approval before beginning any rigorous activity.
