    What is Asian blepharoplasty?

Asian eyelid surgery – also known as Asian blepharoplasty or double eyelid surgery – is a variation of upper blepharoplasty that aims to create a distinctive crease in the upper eyelid.

If desired, the excess skin and/or displaced fat responsible for sagging of the upper eyelid can be treated simultaneously. The end result of Asian blepharoplasty in Turkey can make the eyes appear larger and more expressive while improving the overall attractiveness of the area.

The anatomy of the Asian eyelid is very different from that of the Western eyelid, with perhaps the greatest anatomical variance being a crease near the lower margin of the upper eyelid.

A large percentage of Asian women and men do not have this crease – or the crease is positioned so low that it is virtually undetectable – creating what is known as a ‘single crease’ upper eyelid. In contrast, most people of Western descent have a more pronounced and visible crease, known as a “double crease” of the upper eyelid.

While a single crease upper eyelid is desirable for some Asian individuals, others find the double crease upper eyelid more attractive and wish to achieve this look. In these cases, a specialised upper eyelid surgery technique known as Asian blepharoplasty can be an excellent cosmetic surgery solution in Turkey.

This procedure is also known as supratarsal fixation, whereby anatomical changes are created that elevate the low or non-existent eyelid crease.

How is the Asian blepharoplasty procedure carried out?

Asian blepharoplasty is most often performed under light intravenous sedation, and generally lasts less than an hour. When a natural low crease is already present, the Turkish surgeon raises and/or deepens the crease to make it more prominent.

If no natural crease is present, he will make a small incision at the ideal location, suturing the skin to the underlying muscle to maintain its position. In general, the eyelids will also require slightly more fat shaping than is usually done for the western upper eyelid.

In cases where rejuvenation is desired, the Turkish surgeon will remove excess skin and/or repair loose upper eyelid musculature for an overall improved and more youthful appearance.

    Post-operative follow-up for Asian blepharoplasty

After Asian eyelid surgery in Istanbul, the recovery process is similar to that of traditional upper blepharoplasty. Initially, you may experience some swelling and/or bruising, but these temporary side effects should subside fairly quickly.

Although significant pain is uncommon, any potential discomfort can usually be effectively controlled with medication. Non-demanding jobs and daily routines can usually be resumed after about a week to ten days, although the surgeon will probably advise you to avoid strenuous exercise, physical sports and any other activities that could have a negative impact on proper healing and long-term results for at least two to three weeks. After this period, all restrictions are usually lifted.
