What are dental veneers?

Dental veneers in Tunisia are thin strips of resistant material that are placed on the front of the tooth, covering up a multitude of faults behind.

They are made to measure and their colour is adapted to that of your teeth. They look exactly like your original teeth, only better! Veneers can be applied to a single tooth, several teeth or all teeth, but most people who opt for a complete smile makeover only have veneers applied to the teeth that are visible when they smile – usually six or eight in a row.

Am I a good candidate for dental veneers?

Anyone considering dental veneers should have optimal oral health, with no active gum disease or areas of decay. Although veneers are a purely cosmetic treatment, if your underlying dental health is poor, your veneers won’t stand a chance and may fall off.

What are the benefits of dental veneers?

  • Dental veneers have a number of benefits, including:
  • They are a quick fix for crooked teeth, unlike orthodontics which takes years.
  • They are long-lasting
  • Match your own teeth
  • Stain-resistant
  • Tooth structure is not overly compromised, unlike crowns.
  • They are a viable option for patients with sensitive teeth and gums.

What are the disadvantages of veneers?

Not only do you need to have healthy teeth and gums to begin with, but you also need to ensure that you maintain an excellent oral hygiene regime to avoid disease setting in, which would be bad not only for your oral health, but also for your veneers.

Patients who suffer from bruxism (teeth grinding and/or jaw clenching) are probably not good candidates for dental veneers in Tunisia, as excessive forces can damage the veneers.

Another drawback is the cost, with a full smile makeover (using more than a dozen veneers) running into five figures in the UK. However, with savings of up to 80% in Tunisia, this is a disadvantage you can get round simply by hopping on a plane!

What is the procedure for dental veneers?

The procedure for fitting dental veneers generally requires two or three visits to the dentist in Tunisia within the space of a few days, which can be summarised as follows:

1: Consultation, examination and treatment planning

The dentist in Tunisia will carry out a thorough assessment of your mouth and discuss your hopes and expectations with you. He or she will explain what you need to know before receiving veneers, as well as the materials that will be used.

2: Preparing your teeth

This stage is normally carried out after the planning stage described above (i.e. as part of the same appointment).

Your dentist begins the procedure by removing a small piece of enamel from the front of each tooth to be veneered. That way, when the veneer is fitted, it will be level with the other teeth. Once your teeth have been prepared, impressions are taken and sent to the laboratory where your new dental veneers are made to measure.

3: Fitting veneers

You will return to your dentist a few days later to have your new veneers fitted. The dentist will hold them against your teeth to check colour and fit, and make any minor adjustments necessary before fixing the veneers to the teeth using a light-activated adhesive.

CAD/CAM dentistry

If your dentist in Tunisia has a (CAD/CAM) (computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing) system, it should be possible to have your veneers made on the spot while you wait, especially if you only need one or two.
If you need a large number of veneers, they will probably still have to be made in a laboratory. In any case, the whole process will only take a few days.
