What is IVF ICSI?
In vitro fertilisation in Turkey is a well-known treatment for infertility. For couples struggling to have children and who, for certain reasons, are unable to do so, IVF treatment in Turkey offers a unique possibility: conception outside the human body.
While this approach to IVF is widely known, there is also a more recent and more effective technique available in Istanbul: IVF with ICSI. In the name of this procedure, ICSI stands for intracytoplasmic sperm injection, which means that sperm is injected into the egg by artificial insemination. This technique therefore offers a better chance of successful fertilisation and birth.
Male infertility, or the production of poor-quality sperm, is responsible for around 40-50% of fertility problems worldwide. In vitro fertilisation with ICSI is performed with ejaculated sperm selected for the presence of small cytoplasmic droplets when the male partner has been diagnosed with severe male infertility.
Preparation
IVF with ICSI in Turkey does not involve any elaborate preparation. A patient will be given a fertility drug, which induces egg production, and blood tests will be carried out. Men will meanwhile undergo a sperm test.
This test involves giving a sperm sample, which a laboratory will analyse to determine the number, size and shape of the spermatozoa in order to understand whether the partner’s sperm is of sufficient quality to be useful for artificial insemination. If this is not the case, donor sperm may be considered as a solution.
How to carry it out
The first stage of IVF with ICSI involves extracting eggs and sperm. In the case of sperm, a man can produce a sample himself. If this is not possible, surgical extraction may be necessary.
Once the eggs and sperm have been secured, doctors carry out artificial insemination. Hormones such as progesterone are administered to the patient to prepare her uterus to carry a baby. In the final stage, after 2 to 5 days, the newly conceived embryos are implanted into the woman’s body.
In summary, the process is the same as for normal IVF, except if the initial sperm analysis shows that the spermatozoa are weak or damaged, IVF with an ICSI procedure can be used. During this procedure, a technician injects the spermatozoa directly into the egg. All the other stages take place in the same way as normal IVF.

Recovery
There is no recovery period after IVF with ICSI in Turkey. If in vitro fertilisation fails, a new cycle is started a few weeks later, as in the case of conventional IVF.
Risks
There are no risks or complications associated with IVF with ICSI in Turkey. The ICSI procedure is not invasive, unless the sperm has to be extracted from the male partner’s body.
Side effects
Hormone injections are also used as part of IVF with ICSI treatment in Turkey and may cause slight swelling in the woman, but this is not a truly unpleasant experience. Apart from this, there are no side effects from IVF with ICSI.
Success rate
When talking about the success rate of IVF using the ICSI procedure, it is necessary to differentiate between the fertilisation success rate and the birth success rate. IVF with ICSI results in 50-80% of eggs being successfully fertilised. However, as with standard in vitro fertilisation, the pregnancy and birth success rates for IVF with ICSI depend on the age of the female partner.
For women under the age of 35, the success rate for IVF with ICSI can be as high as 48%, while for women aged 42 or over. The success rate is estimated at around 7%. In addition, a normal pregnancy carries a risk of congenital malformations of around 1.5 to 3%. IVF with ICSI treatment carries a certain risk of congenital anomalies, but this is rare.
Before and after
IVF with ICSI in Turkey increases the possibility of fertilisation of the egg and therefore the possibility of you becoming a happy parent after your infertility treatment, as many IVF with ICSI success stories show.
