Liposuction Turkey: The ultimate guide

Despite a good diet and regular physical activity to lose belly fat, we can end up with a few unsightly bulges that can affect our well-being. A few bulges here and there that you can’t get rid of despite a fat-burning diet.

So, whether you’re a man or a woman, how do you get rid of those fatty lumps? Thank goodness for cosmetic surgery called liposuction.

As its name suggests, and if we translate it as simply as possible, liposuction means sucking out fat. At least, the few pockets of fat that resist a healthy, balanced lifestyle.

The most widely practised cosmetic surgery in the world, liposuction removes belly fat, saddlebags, love handles, double chins and any other excess fat. Although it is less risky than rhinoplasty or breast augmentation, it is always wise to take all the necessary precautions.

What is liposuction?

Liposuction is a plastic surgery operation that involves removing excess fat that cannot be removed after dieting or despite regular exercise. The procedure is suitable for both men and women.

The aim of this cosmetic surgery operation in Turkey is to reshape the figure to the desired proportions after substantial weight loss, by targeting stubborn fat deposits. It is important to know that no more than 4-5 litres of fat can be removed during a liposculpture operation.

To perform liposuction, the plastic surgeon will use cannulas, a kind of thin tube inserted into the deep layers of the skin. The purpose of these tools is to suck out stubborn fat. Depending on the technique used, the cannulas may be combined with ultrasound or lasers(vaser lipo). We’ll look at these procedures a little later.

Liposuction is more than a simple fat suction operation; it also requires technique, application and expertise. It is an art that only a plastic surgeon can master, which is why it is sometimes called liposuction.

Liposuction is not for obese people

Although liposuction can be used to get rid of unsightly fat, it should be noted that it is not suitable for people who are significantly overweight or obese. The main aim of liposuction is to remove small, persistent rolls of fat from certain parts of the body.

These fatty deposits are mostly deep and accumulate in the dermis. These are the deeper fat cells that can appear suddenly and surprisingly on the saddlebags, stomach, arms, neck, thighs, knees, calves or ankles.

Liposuction does notremove cellulite or stretch marks. It should not be carried out for this purpose.

Before considering liposuction surgery in Turkey, patients are advised to follow a slimming regime to lose superficial fat. Only after losing weight can liposuction be considered.

Combining liposuction with a BBL

Because it is so quick to perform, it is common to combine liposuction with other surgeries in a single session. So, for liposuction in Turkey and especially in Istanbul, you can also consider lipofilling, using the fat recovered for breast augmentation without prostheses, or flat buttock augmentation with the famous BBL(Brazilian Butt Lift) technique.

When can liposuction be performed in Turkey?

To consider 360 liposuction in Turkey, surgeons recommend three things:

  • Be as close as possible to your ideal weight. Liposuction is not an option if you are overweight.
  • Be in good health with healthy, elastic skin. The results of liposculpture are more visible on firm skin. If your skin is sagging, a facelift can be considered after liposuction.
  • Be at least 18 years old for reasons of balance and anatomical growth. The body is considered to have reached full growth at the age of 18.

What are the different types of liposuction?

Before you take the plunge, find out about all the techniques used for successful liposuction. If you come to Istanbul, three main techniques are used. These are classic liposuction, laser liposuction and vaser lipo.

1. Conventional liposuction or liposuction

This is the traditional method of liposuction in Turkey. A little more mechanical, but light, it uses a cannula to suck out the excess fat. The cannula is injected into the area to be treated to numb it.

The fat is suctioned out using the cannula and a syringe. The solution used is completely sterile and risk-free. What’s more, the method is gentle and not very traumatic. It is suitable for delicate areas such as the face, waist and arms.

2. Laser liposuction

This liposuction technique uses the heat generated by lasers to rupture the adipocyte membranes and liquefy the fat. This method then facilitates the extraction of the fat. The laser technique is quite delicate, as it can damage the skin, nerves and blood vessels surrounding the fat.

For this method of liposuction to be successful, it should be carried out by an experienced plastic surgeon. Our cosmetic surgery clinic offers the best liposuction surgeons in Istanbul or Antalya , Turkey. If you choose this technique, our surgeon in Istanbul will not disappoint you.

3. Vaser Liposuction or Vaser Lipo

Vaser liposuction is currently the most fashionable technique. It is revolutionary in that it can be used to treat any area of the body with highly satisfactory results. This method uses ultrasound to destroy deep fat deposits. As well as removing the fat, this technique also makes the skin firmer.

Vaser lipo uses a high-frequency ultrasound that emits vibrations to remove the fat. As a result, the skin retracts very quickly and more evenly. This is the most popular liposuction technique in Turkey. This is because the plastic surgeons in Istanbul are highly experienced.

4. HD or high definition liposuction

HD or high definitionliposuction is a variant of vaser lipo. It combines vaser lipo with highly effective techniques and revolutionary technologies. If you want to have a dream body, such as six-pack or chocolate-bar abs, this is the method for you. It’s very popular with bodybuilding enthusiasts, as well as many female influencers.

Liposuction for which parts of the body?

Now that you know what liposuction is and which techniques are the most popular, you also need to know which parts of the body are suitable for liposuction in Turkey. Liposuction for men and women can be performed on the following areas:

  • Facial liposuction: This is performed only on the chin to remove the remains of a double chin. Conventional liposuction will be considered. It is performed through small incisions without scars on the chin.
  • Arm liposuction: This is performed on the back, outside and inside of the arm. It is performed with fine incisions at the elbow crease and under the armpits.
  • Liposuction of the knees: This procedure removes excess fat from the inside of the knee. The procedure is performed using micro-incisions that leave micro-scars.
  • Liposuction of the thighs: This involves suctioning fat from the buttocks and inner thighs using microcannulas. It may be followed by a facelift to tighten the skin of the thighs in cases of significant skin slackening.

  • Liposuction of the abdomen: This is used to restore a flat abdomen or reshape firm abs. In the case of sagging skin, abdominoplasty will complement liposuction. In this case, excess skin must be removed and the abdominal muscle re-tensioned.
  • Liposuction of love handles: This will remove the accumulation of adipose tissue on the hips, stomach, back and abdominal belt.
  • Liposuction of the hips: in this area, liposuction will mainly remove saddlebags, which are very resistant accumulations of adipose tissue that are often difficult to remove through sport or diet.
  • Calf liposuction: liposuction will enable the legs to be slimmed by removing fatty tissue from the inside of the shinbone. More specifically on the calf muscles, Achilles tendons or ankles.
  • Liposuction of the neck: this operation will remove fatty deposits from the cervico-chin angle, i.e. under the chin. Neck liposuction can be combined with double chin liposuction.

Duration of the operation

The operation takes place on an outpatient basis and can take between 30 minutes and 3 hours depending on the size of the treatment area. Type of anaesthetic

Liposculpture can be performed under local or general anaesthetic, depending on the areas to be treated. For small areas such as the knees or double chin, a local anaesthetic is preferred. In all cases, the anaesthetist should be consulted 48 hours before the operation.

Course of the surgery

To begin with, the surgeon will make micro-incisions in the skin of the areas to be treated. He will first target the skin folds to make the scars invisible. He will then insert foam cannulas with small holes at the end. The anaesthetic is then injected, followed by other products such as bicarbonate or adrenaline to prevent bleeding.

The cannulas will be connected to a closed circuit to aspirate the fat. Depending on the technique chosen, the surgeon may use lasers or ultrasound. Ultrasound is generally used, however, as it is more effective and gentler on the skin. During liposuction, the surgeon will suction out around 2 to 3 litres of fat and no more than 5 litres.

Once the fat has been removed, the micro-incisions are sutured using absorbable sutures. They will dissolve on their own once they have healed.

After the operation, you will remain under surveillance for one night at the clinic, to allow time for recovery, but also to reassure you that rapid care will be taken in the event of vagal discomfort. For example, if the operation takes place in the morning, you may leave the clinic at the end of the day, otherwise you will stay overnight for observation.

Before and after results of liposuction in Turkey

After the operation, the suctioned areas may show swelling or bruising over the next 48 hours. These may take two weeks to 1 month to disappear completely. There are no specific treatments, simply care for these areas as gently as possible. Cleaning and maintenance according to the surgeon’s recommendations.

For the first few days, you can take painkillers to ease the pain. You should rest if you feel unwell. The treated area may be sensitive for several weeks.

The surgeon may carry out a drainage session to help the oedema subside. But this is not always systematic.

As for the results of liposuction, these will take 1 to 6 months to become completely visible. This will depend on the area treated. For the stomach, for example, it may take 1 month, for the arms around 2-3 months.

The results of full liposuction are long-lasting. However, as you gain weight, it is quite possible that stubborn fat will return. After liposuction, it is therefore advisable to maintain your weight, or at least not to gain more than 5 kg.

Post-operative care

After surgery, compression bandages will be placed over the incisions during the healing process. You will also be required to wear compression stockings or garments to ensure better drainage under the skin in the event of excessive accumulation of blood or fluids.

Throughout the process, the surgeon will explain to you how to wear the bandages and compression garments to ensure better drainage and rapid healing. In general, compression garments should be worn for about 6 to 8 weeks, depending on the healing process.

Precautions to take for better healing

In addition, for better healing, you will be asked to adopt a particular lifestyle during convalescence. For example, you should not engage in any physical or sporting activity or abrasive movement that could tear the sutures for 2 to 3 months. You should also avoid exposing the scars to the sun and always treat the skin with care for 2 to 3 months.

The convalescence period may last 2 weeks, but 7 days may be enough to resume a normal life, while respecting the aforementioned instructions.
