What is a mini facelift?

A mini facelift in Turkey, also known as a quick facelift, provides a solution to the changes you notice in your face as you age. It can help reduce the visible signs of ageing by tightening and firming the cheeks, jawline and neck.

As we age, the skin covering the fatty tissue of our face begins to sag and droop in various places. This ‘sagging skin’ produces wrinkles and accentuates facial folds.

This is why mini-lifts are generally most appropriate for people who show signs of ageing in the middle of the face only, without significant excess skin around the jawline and neck. Mini-lifts don’t stop the ageing process, they just delay it a little.

When considering a mini-facelift, it’s important to bear in mind that the procedure will leave you looking younger and fresher, but that more advanced techniques are better able to correct (and in the long term) the changes associated with facial ageing. You can discuss your goals, budget and risk tolerance with your surgeon to decide which plan is best for you.

In many cases, a mini-facelift is performed at the same time as other procedures, such as brow and forehead lift, eyelid surgery, facial liposuction, chin augmentation and nose surgery, for a more satisfactory overall appearance.

Who is mini-lifting suitable for?

One or more of the following conditions may indicate that you are a good candidate for a facelift:

  • A deep line or crease, running from the corner of your nose to the corner of your mouth.
  • A slight jowl, or the loss of a well-defined jaw line.
  • Cheek wrinkles and sagging of the prominent cheekbones.

How long does a mini-facelift last?

Although it is possible to achieve a more youthful appearance with a mini-facelift, the ageing process does not stop. The results of a mini-facelift in Turkey are not actually as long-lasting as those of a full facelift. No guarantee can be given by anyone as to how long a patient will be satisfied with a mini-facelift.

Where are the scars placed during a mini-facelift?

Scars from mini-facelifts generally fade to become barely noticeable. One advantage is that the scars are sometimes half as long as those of a traditional facelift.

What is the difference between a mini-facelift and a full facelift?

A mini-facelift has a shorter and much more limited incision than a traditional facelift. The incisions used are shorter.

What is the procedure for a mini-facelift?

The incisions generally begin above the hairline, at the temples; they follow the natural line in front of the ear and the diaphragm, then the skin is pulled back and the excess removed. Stitches secure the layers of tissue and close the incisions.

Duration of operation: 1 hour (general anaesthetic)

Hospital stay : 0-1 night

After the operation

Mini-facelifts can be performed quickly and with little risk, but you should bear in mind that the degree of correction achieved by these lifts is also less. A 7-night stay is recommended in Turkey after a mini-facelift.

Most people can return to work within two weeks of the operation, but the final results will only be visible after a longer period.

The face and head may feel tight and sore, and will be wrapped in bandages to help minimise bruising and swelling for the first 24 to 48 hours.

At first, you may feel tense or cold, but these sensations are temporary. Bruising and swelling are common after face and neck surgery, but these feelings and appearance are transient and usually begin to fade after the first week.

How can I hide the signs of facial surgery?

You can use camouflage cosmetics, including a complexion corrector, eye shadow and colour corrector. Lavender neutralises or makes yellow disappear, and green has a similar effect on red.

How long will it take for me to resume my normal life?

Most patients are able to return to work one to two weeks after a mini-facelift. You really need to allow four weeks before major social engagements.

Face lift

A facelift, or rhytidectomy, is a surgical procedure that improves the visible signs of ageing on the face and neck, such as:

  • Sagging facial skin.
  • Deepening of the fold lines between the nose and the corner of the mouth
  • Fat that has fallen or disappeared
  • formation of jowls on the cheeks and jawline
  • Sagging skin and excess fat in the neck, which can result in a double chin or “turkey neck”.

What a facelift cannot do

As reconstructive surgery, a facelift does not change your fundamental appearance and cannot stop the ageing process.

A facelift can only be performed surgically; minimally invasive rejuvenation treatments do not achieve the same results, but can help delay the time when a facelift becomes appropriate and complement the results of surgery.

Some minimally invasive treatments, such as stem cell facelifts, are unproven.
