Who is tooth whitening in Turkey intended for?

Our teeth are not perfectly white, despite what the adverts for whitening toothpastes tell you. Some yellowing of the teeth is natural. However, some people may experience significant yellowing. Your teeth may actually become stained because of what you eat or drink.

In some cases, teeth can be naturally dark yellow. Your genetics and age also play a role in the beauty of your teeth.

Here are some factors that can lead to serious discolouration of your teeth:

• Poor dental hygiene (not brushing regularly)
• Constantly drinking beverages such as coffee, tea and red wine, which can stain teeth. Certain fruits such as apples can also stain your teeth.
• Smoking tobacco
• Certain medicines

What’s the difference between professional whitening and home whitening?

The teeth whitening procedure is essentially a whitening procedure. Teeth whitening products sold in supermarkets contain hydrogen peroxide, a whitening agent that removes stains from teeth.

Hydrogen peroxide, as you may already know, is a highly corrosive acid. It can damage enamel and gums if used in high concentrations.

That’s why over-the-counter teeth whitening products contain very low concentrations of hydrogen peroxide. These products won’t damage your gums, but they won’t remove much of the yellowing from your teeth either.

Tooth whitening in Istanbul

Here are the basic steps of the professional teeth whitening procedure in Istanbul, Turkey.

Examination and screening

Before starting the procedure, the dentist will examine your teeth and gums. If you have gum disease or cavities, the dentist will recommend that you postpone the procedure until the serious problems have been treated.

The dentist will also check whether you are fit to undergo the procedure. Laser tooth whitening is not recommended for pregnant women. The procedure is not generally performed on teenagers either. If you are under 18, your dentist may recommend that you wait until you are a little older to undergo the procedure.

You must also have enough exposed tooth enamel to undergo the whitening procedure. If your gum line is uneven, your teeth may not whiten evenly, which can lead to an odd smile. Also, if your gums have receded, exposing the roots of your teeth, your dentist may not recommend whitening. The roots of your teeth do not respond to whitening, so only certain parts of your teeth will be whitened.

Don’t panic if you don’t qualify for professional teeth whitening. There are other alternatives you can consider, such as dental veneers in Turkey and luminaires. Pre-treat your teeth

Before laser whitening begins, the dentist will clean your teeth. This is usually done by a dental hygienist. The hygienist removes tartar and plague, if any remains, to fully prepare the enamel for the professional teeth whitening procedure.

The dental hygienist will also check that all your cavities are well filled. The enamel must not be damaged to the point of allowing the whitening agent to penetrate the inside of your teeth. If it does, the whitening solution will damage sensitive tissues and nerves.

Preparing for the procedure

The professional teeth whitening procedure is not painful. You do not need a local anaesthetic, as is the case for tooth extraction. However, in some patients, the laser whitening process may cause tooth sensitivity or perhaps minor inflammation.

For this reason, some dentists prescribe a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) before the procedure begins. You should inform the dentist if you are taking any other prescription or over-the-counter medication before taking the NSAID. Also inform the dentist of any allergies or sensitivities.

The whitening process

Once all the above steps have been completed, you can begin the teeth whitening process. The process is fairly quick. You will be asked to lie down in a dental chair. The dentist will use a mouth guard to keep your mouth open and your teeth exposed.

Before the process begins, the dentist will place a protective barrier over your gums. This will prevent the laser or whitening agent from touching the gums.

Next, the dentist applies a whitening solution in gel form to the enamel on the front of the teeth. This is usually done with a syringe. The whitening agent remains on the teeth.

After the treatment

The dentist will examine your teeth one last time before you leave. You may experience some tooth sensitivity after the whitening procedure. Mild to moderate sensitivity is normal. But some patients may report high levels of sensitivity. The dentist will prescribe medication if sensitivity levels are high.

At this stage, your gums should feel normal. If you feel any pain or notice any whitening in your gums, tell the dentist immediately.

Risks and complications
