Regaining the firmness and curves of yesteryear is what attracts thousands of patients from all over the world every year. Tunisia is particularly attractive, and has been booming in recent years.
What is a thigh lift?
A thigh lift, also known as cruroplasty, is a cosmetic surgery procedure that removes excess skin or fat from the upper and lower thighs to give a smoother, more toned appearance. The body’s natural ageing process sometimes causes the skin on the inner thighs to sag. This sagging can quickly become unsightly and a source of complexes.
The operation can be combined with liposuction to obtain even more spectacular results. Some patients also undergo buttock augmentation to achieve a more harmonious figure.
There are 2 types of thigh lift operation:
- Internal thigh lift, the most common operation
- And external thigh lift
Who can have a thigh lift in Tunisia?
Generally speaking, any adult aged 18 or over can have a thigh lift in Tunisia, as long as they are in good health and there are no contraindications from their doctor.
There are 3 main reasons for this choice:
- Unattractive appearance and sagging due to the natural ageing of the skin;
- Excess fat caused by weight gain;
- Excess skin left by sudden and rapid weight loss.
How is the operation carried out?
As with any surgical operation in Tunisia, patients are guided throughout the procedure.
Pre-operative consultation
An initial consultation takes place with the plastic surgeon in charge of the operation.
During this discussion, the plastic surgeon :
- Determines whether the patient is eligible for the operation;
- Listens to and answers all the patient’s questions;
- Establishes a diagnosis and an action plan based on what can and cannot be done;
- Inform the patient of the procedure, the instructions and the risks associated with the operation.
Communication is fundamental during this initial interview, as it will determine how smoothly the rest of the procedure runs.
The day of the operation
The date has been set and the big day has arrived. The patient is invited to go to the Tunisian hospital selected. The team of medical staff welcome them and make sure that everything goes smoothly before they enter the operating theatre.
Duration of the operation
The operation is always performed under general anaesthetic and lasts an average of 2 hours. However, the duration may be shorter or longer, depending on the amount of excess fat to be removed.
Internal thigh lift
For an internal thigh lift, the plastic surgeon makes an incision in the crease between the perineum and the thigh before proceeding with the lift and liposuction. This procedure only tightens the skin of the upper and inner thigh.
Lateral thigh lift
External lifting is rarer than internal lifting. It treats the excess skin that forms the saddlebags when liposuction alone would give a poor result.
Post-operative follow-up
Patients stay in hospital for 1 night for observation before being able to go home the next day. The operation is rarely performed on an outpatient basis.
Some pain may be felt, but painkillers are prescribed to ensure that patients suffer as little as possible. As far as scars are concerned, some are slightly visible, but the surgeon ensures that they are not visible when the patient is standing up. Once again, the length of the scar depends on the amount of excess fat removed during the operation.
The final result is visible about 3 months after the operation, once the post-operative oedema has disappeared. Note that scars change up to 1 year after the operation, so there’s no need to worry.
