The Hospital Universitario Dexeus is situated in an exceptional location in the city of Barcelona, at the centre of what is known as the “axis of knowledge” and where the financial, university and research sectors converge, reinforcing its educational vocation.
Also known as Hospital del Coneixement, it is the reference centre in many of its specialities, being one of the first private university centres in Spain.
Barcelona’s Hospital Universitari Dexeus offers top-level medical and surgical care in all specialities, including obstetrics and gynaecology, traumatology and paediatrics. The centre has a strong team of over 450 health professionals and incorporates the latest functional and technological advances typical of major medical centres. Today, it has established itself as a deeply human hospital, focused on the development of medicine, research and the training of postgraduate students and aspiring MIRs.
For example, the centre was awarded Child Friendly Hospital accreditation in 2002, being the first private hospital to obtain this certificate. This is a Spanish initiative promoted by UNICEF, which refers to the support, protection and promotion of breastfeeding.
Every year, 49,000 hospitalisations are recorded at the Hospital Universitari Dexeus, more than 85,000 emergencies are treated (around 230 per day), more than 10,000 surgical operations are carried out, more than 2,500 births take place and around fifty clinical trials are carried out. In addition, the centre has an MIR programme in anaesthesiology, obstetrics/gynaecology and traumatology/orthopaedics.
